Transitioning to the Cloud

Gartner predicts that by 2019, one third of software vendors will transition to the cloud. This, coupled with the promise of efficiency and profitability, is driving the exodus from the data center to the cloud. As businesses evolve to the cloud, they’re challenged with the task of moving applications and huge chunks of data from on-site to cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure. An effective cloud migration strategy is incredibly important and often overlooked, until the severity of potential roadblocks are realized during the move process.

It is important that once migrated, applications and data are accessible by users and ancillary systems in a controllable, secure, performant manner. Traditional methods of cloud connectivity such as VPN tunnels and dedicated MPLS connections are cumbersome, expensive, and can take months to establish. NetFoundry delivers a new level of network agility to businesses embracing cloud migration and modern application practices.

Embrace the Cloud with Confidence

The NetFoundry platform enables administrators to instantly spin up software-only, Zero Trust, micro-segmented networks called AppWANs at scale using our web orchestration console and APIs. AppWANs can be deployed to connect anything (from users to ancillary applications) over the Internet, to cloud-migrated workloads with dynamically optimized performance and a robust, multi-dimensional security posture.

NetFoundry brings agility, security, and speed that traditional connectivity solutions can’t match. Networks can be spun up instantly using virtual gateways that are pre-built for AWS, Microsoft Azure, and other common cloud platforms.

Cloud Migration Challenges

Many cloud migration projects develop challenges such as budget overruns, unnecessary complexity, and significant scope creep when it comes to establishing connections to AWS, Azure, or other public clouds for the purposes of migrating workloads and for connecting those workloads post-migration. Although out-of-the-box connectivity offerings from these providers offer a rich set of options to connect customers to, and across their respective ecosystems, a local connection is required to the nearest point of presence to get there. These connections are typically transient IPSec tunnels over Internet circuits, which have very limited throughput and performance assurances, or dedicated MPLS circuits, which can take months to establish, are incredibly expensive, and complex to provision.

No-Hesitation Cloud Migrations

During workload migration, NetFoundry’s web orchestration console and APIs enable customers to instantly spin up secure, software-only AppWANs directly to their public cloud environment(s) of choice over existing Internet connections without sacrificing security or speed. Since NetFoundry’s AppWANs encapsulate TCP in the significantly more performant UDP protocol while dynamically optimizing data flows to follow the best performing paths across our global network fabric, the time it takes to migrate data from on premises to the cloud is drastically reduced when compared to traditional VPNs. In one instance, NetFoundry reduced data transit time from two days with a traditional VPN tunnel to less than eight hours with an AppWAN, using the same Internet connection.

After workloads are migrated, customers use NetFoundry to establish micro-segmented AppWANs between users, data centers, other cloud providers, and their cloud migrated applications. You can rest assured that data-in-motion is protected, because each AppWAN built with the NetFoundry platform is fortified by a multi-dimensional security architecture which isolates, encrypts, and protects data flows, resulting in zero trust, private, dark networks over the Internet, micro-segmented by application.

post cloud migration

Inevitably, changes have to be made, such as connections to ancillary applications that may have been overlooked in the initial migration. Since spinning up AppWANs is quick and easy, oversights such as this can be mitigated in a matter of minutes, rather than days or weeks with other connectivity options.

We're Transforming Cloud Migrations

  • “For IMS, working with NetFoundry Zero Trust enables us to best serve edge compute. We have been working to embed our IoT Edge solution with NetFoundry SDKs to enable customers to meet their edge compute goals without the hassle of deploying VPNs, firewalls, or propriety hardware.”
    Paul Edrich
    CTO, IMS
  • “The level of efficiency OSM Maritime gains from working with an innovator like NetFoundry can't be overstated. It is critical to give our org the ability to access all apps and to have this access secure is no longer optional but a must. For that reason, we have decided to work with NetFoundry.”
    Chakib Abi Saab
    CTO, OSM Maritime Group
  • “Zero trust and least privilege access in a world that is moving towards edge compute and dynamic containerized services is pivotal, which is yet again where NetFoundry scores with its capability to integrate with automation frameworks via its APIs and eliminate VPNs.”
    Martin Braem
    COO, Klarrio
